Misalignment of equipment and machines can be very costly in production efficiency and downtime. Both the above are linked together in that machine misalignment can be the cause of Product creasing, fabric wear, vibration and even bearing failure, all resulting in production of non-saleable Products, short life span of machine fabrics and mechanical breakdown. Over the last twenty years most paper mills have had an optical survey carried out, small adjustments made, minor improvements carried out and the paper machine back on line. Over a period of time foundations settle, buildings move, constant shut downs and start ups, with rapid temperature changes create forces on soleplates, which all added together can result in machine misalignment. PPD Ltd. as independent engineers to the pulp, paper and allied trades have been carrying out optical surveys for the past 20 years.
